Monster Hunter World

Great Early Armor Pieces | Monster Hunter World

Picking the right Armor in Low Rank is a difficult proposition, especially for the new player. Monster Hunter World throws numerous equipment choices at you, each replete with new and unknown skills, and expect you to combine them with one of fourteen weapons and find success. Weapons at least remain intact no matter your choice, but Armor itself is replete with pitfalls – early pieces especially come with some very superfluous skills that will do little to help you progress. Today then, we’re going to list some of the more useful bits of Low Rank Armor for each body part – combine some of these and you’ll find the journey to High Rank easier than ever.

Head Armor:

Rathalos Helm, Monster Hunter World
  • Bone Helm – (Health Boost x 1)
  • Jagras Helm – (Speed Eating x 1)
  • Kadachi Helm – (Constitution x 1)
  • Lumu Hat – (Stamina Surge x 1)
  • Rathalos Helm – (Attack Boost x 1)

Your head piece choices aren’t exactly fantastic in Low Rank. You’ll probably struggle to find something to stick with until you reach the Rathalos Helm, which comes with a nice single point in Attack Boost. Outside of this we’ve chosen to recommend a few niche picks, or those that help your hunter retain stamina. The Jagras Helm is actually quite underrated here – speed eating is a nice skill to have, especially as you begin to learn early monsters. Combined with the chest piece below, the Bone Helm is probably the easiest to make and it’ll serve you well, certainly until you reach 4-Star and above.

Early Build:

  • Rathalos Helm – (Attack Boost x 1)

Chest Armor:

Bone Mail, Monster Hunter World
  • Bone Mail – (Attack Boost x 1)
  • Kulu Mail – (Stamina Surge x 1)
  • Kadachi Mail – (Jump Master x 1)
  • Tzitzi Mail – (Constitution x 1)
  • Rathalos Mail – (Weakness Exploit x 1)

Similar to the Helms above, the chest pieces are very much a ‘wait for Rathalos loot’ section. Still, the Bone Mail is something that you’ll get a great deal of use from, especially if you combine it with a good charm to boost your attack as much as possible. Other than this we’ve gone with some more Stamina options – having the ability to dodge roll a few more times or run after a fleeing monster a little longer is something that is at least a tangible benefit. All in all, we’d say grab the Bone Mail and run with it for as long as you can, perhaps even upgrading it a few times to ensure that your defence stat keeps up with your quests.

Early Build:

  • Rathalos Helm – (Attack Boost x 1)
  • Rathalos Mail – (Weakness Exploit x 1) – or – Bone Mail – (Attack Boost x 1)

Arms Armor:

Odogaron Vambraces, Monster Hunter World
  • Kulu Vambraces – (Pro Transporter x 1)
  • Barroth Vambraces – (Marathon Runner x 1)
  • Kadachi Vambraces – (Evade Extender x 1)
  • Death Stench Grip – (Focus x 1)
  • Odogaron Vambraces – (Constitution x 1)

Unfortunately, prior to High Rank your Arm choices are quite bland. There are a few Stamina options in there again, in the form of the Odogaron Vambraces and Barroth Vambraces, but these don’t exactly get the juices flowing. Our personal recommendation would be to grab the Kadachi Vambraves, because Evade Extender is very useful whilst learning the attacking movements of monsters. Two caveats to this would be to grab the Death Stench Grip if you’re using the Great Sword – Focus is fantastic and reduces charge time – or the Kulu Vambraces for those… Interesting transport quests.

Early Build:

  • Rathalos Helm – (Attack Boost x 1)
  • Rathalos Mail – (Weakness Exploit x 1) – or – Bone Mail – (Attack Boost x 1)
  • Kadachi Vambraces – (Evade Extender x 1)

Waist Armor:

Odogaron Coil, Monster Hunter World
  • Tzitzi Coil – (Wide-Range x 1)
  • Baan Coil – (Guard x 1)
  • Harvest Hoja – (Constitution x 1)
  • Odogaron Coil – (Critical Eye x 1)
  • Diablos Coil – (Marathon Runner x 1)

The best option for your Low Rank Belt is the Odogaron Coil, at least in terms of damage. This also combines well with the Kulu Greaves outlined below, adding up to a few extra levels of critical chance. Other than this you can double or even triple down on some of the Stamina options we’ve outlined, or even begin to participate in some jolly supporting group play by grabbing Wide Range from the Tzitzi Coil.

Early Build:

  • Rathalos Helm – (Attack Boost x 1)
  • Rathalos Mail – (Weakness Exploit x 1) – or – Bone Mail – (Attack Boost x 1)
  • Kadachi Vambraces – (Evade Extender x 1)
  • Odogaron Coil – (Critical Eye x 1)

Leg Armor:

Hornetaur Greaves, Monster Hunter World
  • Kulu Greaves – (Critical Eye x 1)
  • Alloy Greaves – (Speed Sharpening x 1)
  • Jyura Greaves – (Focus x 1)
  • Hornetaur Greaves – (Handicraft x 1)
  • Harvest Raiz – (Mushroomancer x 1)

There are actually some excellent options here in the boots section. Mushroomancer is a fantastic skill that has great potential, though we’d argue you want a few more levels of this before it really shines. Handicraft too is an incredible skill, but in Low Rank you’re unlikely to get too much of a benefit from it, outside of a weapon occasionally dipping into higher sharpness levels. There’s the Jyrua Greaves too, which will work well with the Death Stench option earlier for the Great Sword users out there. In the end, we tend to prefer the Kulu Greaves. They’re easy to craft and combining the Critical Eye with that found on the Odogaron Coil is a nice benefit to take on your journey into High Rank.

Early Build:

  • Rathalos Helm – (Attack Boost x 1)
  • Rathalos Mail – (Weakness Exploit x 1) – or – Bone Mail – (Attack Boost x 1)
  • Kadachi Vambraces – (Evade Extender x 1)
  • Odogaron Coil – (Critical Eye x 1)
  • Kulu Greaves – (Critical Eye x 1)
